Reality TV Research

I’m slightly addicted to reality TV and feel guilty about it — unless it’s a situation like I encountered last week when, watching the Rock of Love Bus finale, I realized Bret and his two finalists were checking into Paradisus Punta Cana Resort, where I stayed a few months ago! In fact, Taya and Mindy’s room was identical to mine — only thankfully, I could enjoy mine without having to stress over rejection from Bret.

Which got me thinking … if I file watching these shows under “hotel research,” I have nothing to feel guilty about! So here’s what I’m setting my DVR for:

image-deluxeRoomThe Real Housewives of New York City For his day job, Alex’s Aussie metrosexual hubby Simon is the general manager of Hotel Chandler in New York City. Not that they’ve ever shown the hotel in an episode, but who knows — maybe Bethenny and Kelly Klein will throw down there one day. I’ve actually stayed at this hotel. The staff is welcoming, and I love the location in the Flatiron District. And with current rates of $199 per night for a standard queen, who cares if the rooms are small?

image-cliffs-nzThe Bachelor I gave up on this one a few seasons ago, but with all of the drama surrounding flip-flop Jason and his reunion-show dumping of girl #1, I may have to watch this past season on DVD. Plus, I heard the finale was filmed at the luxurious Kauri Cliffs resort in Northland, New Zealand. Seriously, with a setting like that, can you blame the guy for falling in love with both women?

image-cancun-meThe Real World Cancun Word has it the current season is being filmed as we speak at ME Cancun Resort, a 448-room beachfront property that caters to party types with amenities like the world’s first MAXIM beach club. The Real World Las Vegas did amazing things for The Palms, and I’ll bet ME is banking on the same thing happening there. I’ll be watching when it airs later this year.
