We have to admit, we’re a little sad the wedding of the century is officially over. While we had a blast watching the April 29 nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton, all eyes are on their next move: where they’ll go for the royal honeymoon.
The newlyweds are no strangers to travel and have frequented exotic spots like the private island of Mustique and the African country of Kenya, where he popped the question last winter. But the frontrunner for this special vacay is rumored to be Lizard Island, a tiny, remote isle off the coast of North Queensland, Australia. With no cell service and only one resort, it has the potential to give the royals some much-needed privacy.
Lizard Island Resort, the island’s lone lodging, houses 40 private villas, the most elite being The Pavillion, which has a 270-degree view of the ocean and a private plunge pool. And with its close proximity to The Great Barrier Reef, Lizard Island is a premier diving site — one of Prince William’s favorite pastimes. In fact, on his visit to Australia in March, the prince claimed he’d love to dive at the Great Barrier Reef and went so far as to say, "I will have to come back. Maybe we'll have a honeymoon in Cairns." Since Lizard Island is just a short plane ride away from Cairns, it could very well be the perfect honeymoon escape for the prince and his new bride.
We don’t think you can go wrong with a sunny beach locale, but wherever the royals end up is sure to be the next go-to honeymoon destination. We can’t wait to find out where they’re headed — where do you think they’ll go?
