Chocolate Mania
September 30th, 2010
by Tara Bradley
A few weeks ago I received an email from TasteTv asking the DWH staff to be judges for the upcoming International Chocolate Salon. Our job? To taste a ginormous box of chocolates made by various confectioners and rate them on categories such as Best Dark Chocolate, Best Truffle, Best for the Wedding Reception and Best Bridal Gift Set. It sounded too good to be true. Hence, I was a little hesitant to tell the rest of the staff. (Or maybe I was a little hesitant to share …)
Regardless, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. Before our weekly Monday edit meeting, I presented the staff with countless colorful boxes of truffles, chocolates and sweets. After squealing with excitement, we divided them up and scurried off to our desks to indulge privately in our chocolate breakfasts. We didn’t waste any time. (Our intern, Sarah, had her survey on my desk in less than five minutes. Now that’s dedication!)
And while I haven’t met a chocolate I didn't like (well, aside from an unfortunate black-licorice-truffle experience), I also appreciate the packaging. It astonishes me how much work goes into each paper box, delicately lined with colored tissue and tied with a matching bow. So simple and so sweet … and always such a hit at weddings!
Another thing we love — today’s chocolatiers are doing much more than your milk, dark and white variations. Have a favorite? Let us know. A girl can never have too much chocolate.
