Grand-prize Winner: “Lavender Love,” photographed by JC Macalino, of JC Image Design, based in San Ramon, CA
Couple Newlyweds from San Jose, CA, at Bear Flag Farm, in Winters, CA, Aug. 23, 2009
Inspiration “The bride wanted to immerse herself in the sweet-smelling field before the sun disappeared. With the sun’s remaining rays gently kissing the tips of the lavender, she began to lead her husband into the flowers. The scene was so simple, so perfect in every way.”
How to capture a similar moment “Just let go, and work with a photographer who will chase those moments with you.”
Best part of shooting weddings away “Weddings are already magical — love fills the air, good food and drink abound, and a feeling of celebration pervades the senses. When you take that experience to a land away from home, all of that seems to get heightened. That magic comes through in the photos I create.”
From the judges “The movement and careful framing draw the viewer straight to the bride — who wouldn’t want to be her in this photo?” — Diane Rice
